A situation-first, rules-based and explainable decision system for portable power stations and household backup. The user describes the real situation — loads, duration, recharge, constraints — and the system returns a small set of verdicts it can justify, including the verdict that no suitable product exists.
Current status: pre-launch
Publisher and merchant onboarding is in progress. The recommendation engine, the dated catalogue and the affiliate integrations are not live. No brand is named as a partner and no commercial approval, partnership or merchant acceptance is implied.
The problem we solve
Portable power is sold in watt-hours and headline output figures, while the buyer arrives with a situation: a freezer that must hold for two days, a CPAP that must run every night, a jobsite tool with a surge far above its rated draw. The result is capacity that cannot cover the duration, output that cannot absorb a startup surge, or a recharge path that never closes the cycle.
How the decision system works
- Situation. Home outage, 48–72 hour household backup, refrigerator and freezer, router and PC, CPAP, van or RV, jobsite, outdoor use — never a brand.
- Loads and energy need. An appliance library plus user inputs for continuous watts, startup surge, runtime, simultaneous loads and priority, producing a conservative deterministic calculation of target duration, estimated usable capacity, conversion losses, reserve margin, continuous output and surge requirement.
- Recharge and constraints. Grid, solar and vehicle recharge against the available recharge window, pass-through/UPS behaviour and expansion capacity; systems that cannot sustain the complete cycle are eliminated. Then budget, weight, noise, portability, indoor or outdoor use, temperature range, connectors and warranty.
- Normalized dated catalogue. Estimated usable capacity, output and surge, recharge paths, solar input, UPS/pass-through, expansions, weight and warranty — stable technical facts kept separate from promotional data, with price and stock timestamped.
- Explainable verdicts. Three to five verdicts — best fit, value option, lighter/portable option, expandable option — or an explicit “no suitable product”, each with reasons, limits and elimination rules. Affiliate links are applied only after ranking is decided.
Representative use situations
- Home outage — keeping a few priority loads alive during a short, unplanned grid loss.
- 48–72 hour household backup — usable capacity, reserve and the recharge cycle decide feasibility.
- Refrigerator and freezer — cyclic loads with a startup surge far above continuous draw.
- Router and PC — low continuous draw, long runtime, clean pass-through or UPS behaviour.
- CPAP overnight — fixed-duration load where reserve margin matters more than peak output.
- Van and RV — vehicle recharge, weight, temperature range and connector compatibility.
- Jobsite — high surge tools, noise limits and repeated daily recharge windows.
- Outdoor use — portability, weight and solar recharge against an uncertain window.
What a verdict will contain
- Three to five ranked options, or an explicit “no suitable product”.
- The reasons: which loads, duration, surge and recharge window the option satisfies, and with what reserve margin.
- The limits: what the option cannot do and when it stops being adequate.
- The elimination rules that removed the alternatives, so the ranking can be audited.
- Data provenance: the date of the technical record and, separately, the timestamp of price and stock.
Catalogue integrity and the update loop
The catalogue is normalized and dated; price and stock are timestamped and never treated as technical characteristics. A proprietary update loop — working name Power Match Update — is planned and not currently available: captured after a future verdict, it would send price and stock alerts, range changes and new models, compatibility changes, and return the user to an updated recommendation for the same situation.
Editorial independence and affiliate disclosure
The project intends to earn revenue through affiliate links, placed after the decision and never inside it. Ranking is produced by the rules above; commission is applied to an already-decided ranking and can never reorder it. The affiliate layer is designed as per-network adapters with deep links and SubID attribution and click → sale → return tracking, with clear affiliate disclosure wherever a commercial link appears. Acquisition is planned through situation-led content — calculators, usage comparisons, methodology, FAQ and a dated catalogue update log — explicitly excluding thin brand × model page farms.
